The Summer League kickoff will likely be pivotal for the Nuggets who have used this as an opportunity for player development to produce players that can have large impacts with the organization sooner rather than later.
With Michael Porter Jr. sidelined due to injury, the Nuggets will be focusing on the performances of Vlatko Cancar and Brandon Goodwin.
Cancar was the Nuggets' 2017 second-round pick and will be coming into summer league play following a successful campaign in Liga ACB, considered the second best basketball league in the world.
Goodwin will be matched up against former high school phenom Jalen Lecque who is expected to start for the Suns. 19 year-old Lecque was a combine standout, recording this years highest vertical leap at 43 inches with the nickname 'Baby Westbrook'.
These two will be fun to watch as both are known for their speed and athleticism around the basket. Goodwin will have the advantage with experience in college, the G-League, and NBA, but both are undrafted players with a lot left to prove.
The Suns will be relying on mostly undrafted players and free agents against the Nuggets. There will not be a true sense of their roster until July 6 when all draft-day trades are able to formally join the rosters. These will include No. 11 pick Cam Johnson and No. 24 pick Ty Jerome who should definitely make a difference in summer league play with the potential of regular season impacts.
