Suspected Shooter in David Ortiz Case Claims He Didn't Know He Was Sent to Attack Big Papi

When many of us heard the early reports that former Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz was attacked in an assassination attempt down in the Dominican Republic, we were floored. He's a hero in his country; who would knowingly do something of the sort?
According to Latin American sports journalist Hector Gomez, the suspected shooter "didn't know" he was supposed to shoot the Red Sox legend, and was only given a description of the target's outfit by those who hired him.
Suspected shooter on David Ortiz's case, declared that he didn’t know it was Ortíz that he was shooting. According the sources, he said that he was only given information on clothes Ortiz was wearing and was told that was the person he had shoot to. https://t.co/ZvmMqf01HO

The individual's case isn't helped by this statement, of course, as he'll still likely be charged with attempted murder, but if his statement is correct, then someone was trying to eliminate Ortiz, and inform as few people as possible.

There are still plenty of details that are not known at this time. For instance, why was Ortiz targeted in this shooting? Hopefully, more answers come to the forefront in the coming days so we can try and understand why this happened.
