Suspended LB Rolando McClain is Reportedly Seeking Reinstatement From NFL
By Karl Rasmussen
Former Oakland Raider and Dallas Cowboy Rolando McClain is looking to return to the NFL after he was suspended indefinitely in Dec. 2016 after violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
McClain has not played in the NFL since the 2015 season where he had 80 tackles and an interception. He was a star in college at the University of Alabama under Nick Saban and was drafted eighth overall by the Raiders in the 2010 NFL Draft.
McClain is heading into his age 30 season and certainly does not move the way he used to, even if he has had a couple years off. He underwent hip surgery in 2016 which fixed an issue he dealt with since he was born, and was getting worse as he continued to play football.
During his time off, McClain went back to Alabama to finish his education and has spent time working out in their facilities. With enough time to turn his career around, he does not want to walk away from football thinking about the things he could have accomplished.
There are plenty of teams who will take a risk on a former first round pick especially if they know he is healthy and fixed his off-field issues.
Before any of that happens, he has to go through the NFL and NFLPA just to get the chance to be a free agent and return to the league.
