Terry Francona Says Indians' Carlos Carrasco is Going to Throw Bullpen Sessions This Week
By Michael Luciano
It's a good time to be a Cleveland Indians fan. Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes are in town, the team is surging, and Carlos Carrasco is inching closer to a return to action from the brink of tragic circumstances.
Carrasco, after going down under mysterious circumstances, was diagnosed with leukemia in early July. While some doubted he would ever see a major league game again, manager Terry Francona instead claims that the battling Carrasco is going to throw a bullpen session this week.
As the man himself has always promised, a return this season could be in the cards after all.
Before his diagnosis, the 32-year-old Carrasco was 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this season.
Carrasco's diagnosis has not only brought forth an overwhelming tide of well-wishes and prayers from the baseball community, but it's united the Indians. The #CookieStrong hashtag has kept Carrasco's story in the national spotlight, while the Indians have hit their stride on the diamond.
The Indians were 31-30 when he informed the team of his diagnosis. Since then, the team is 31-12, and just might catch the Twins in the AL Central.
If Carrasco can get back on the diamond this season, it would be one of the great comeback stories we've seen in the league in some time.
