Texans Dodge Embarrassing Bullet as Public Intoxication Charges Dismissed Against TE Ryan Griffin
By Max Scoli
Ryan Griffin was released by the Houston Texans following his recent arrest for being "disorderly" and allegedly punching a window at a hotel in Nashville during the NFL Draft.
While this transgression did cost the tight end his job, it didn't cost him his freedom, as all the charges were dismissed Friday morning.
With this settlement, Griffin will avoid having misdemeanor vandalism and public intoxication charges on his record. The UConn product didn't have much of a choice in the matter, as fighting the allegations would have been difficult. His left hand and fingers were bleeding when he was approached by the police on the night of April 27. The officers added that Griffin was clearly drunk and unable to maintain his balance.
A former sixth-round draft pick out of Connecticut, where he was a two-time All-Big East Second Team honoree, Griffin caught 24 passes for 305 yards and no touchdowns with Houston last season. He was entering the final year of his deal before being released by the organization.
His best season in the NFL came in 2016, when he recorded a career-high 50 receptions for 442 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
