Texans WR Kenny Stills Calls for Unity Amid Bill O'Brien Backlash for DeAndre Hopkins Trade
By Scott Rogust
It's been a tough offseason for Houston Texans fans. Head coach and de facto general manager Bill O'Brien decided to trade star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for a declining running back in David Johnson and a pair of mid-round draft picks, a move that instantly invited serious blowback.
Texans fans have spent the weeks following the trade calling for the head of O'Brien (proverbially speaking) for perpetrating such a baffling transaction. Diehards have even sent tweets directly to Texans players to get their opinions on the trade, including new No. 1 receiver Kenny Stills. After being asked if the team simply hates O'Brien at this point, Stills decided to take the professional route and refuse to give the questioner a blunt answer. Instead, he called for an end to all the negativity surrounding the team and its fans.
Whether Texans fans like it or not, Stills approached this exactly how he should have.
This is the same case in life. You can't let negativity eat up at you, because it's not healthy for your physical and mental wellbeing. It's all about leaving the past in the past and moving on, as much as it might hurt to do so.
Stills says that it does sting for the team to lose a super-talented player like Hopkins, and he's right. But as is the case with any professional sports team, you move on and hope to find another player to replicate his production, no matter how daunting that might be.
And if the Texans can't, then O'Brien will be held responsible. That's the way the sports world turns, so don't lose sleep over this, fans. You've got much more important things to worry about right now.
