The Brewers Could Actually Win the NL Central and the Cardinals Should Be Terrified
By Jerry Trotta
The NL Wild Card Game could feature one team we weren't expecting to see (at least based on how the last few weeks have played out). The Washington Nationals, who clinched a spot on Tuesday, will either square off against the Milwaukee Brewers or...St. Louis Cardinals.
What?!
Now, some of you might be surprised the Cards are there, but the Brew Crew, are right on the Redbirds' tails in the NL Central, which wasn't the case just a few nights ago.
St. Louis fell to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, meaning the Brewers are just 1.5 games back of the division lead as they do battle with the Reds tonight. For those wondering, Milwaukee is up BIG early in Cincinnati.
Somewhere in the desert, manager Mike Shildt and Co. are sweating through their shirts. The Cards have just three games left this season. Care to guess who they play? The Cubs, who are absolutely going to be out to get revenge for St. Louis' four-game sweep at Wrigley Field this past weekend, which swiftly squandered Chicago's playoff hopes.
The Brewers, on the other hand, still have another game against the Reds on Thursday before they head to Coors Field for a three-game set against the 68-89 Rockies.
Who would you give the advantage? Before you answer, let us tell you that Milwaukee has won 9 of its last 10 games and 16 of their last 20.
Ladies and gentleman, we have a captivating race for the NL Central crown on our hands as we close out the 2019 campaign.
