An extra-innings loss to the Braves on Sunday night dropped the Cardinals to 26-26, a record that is nowhere near the level of play St. Louis is capable of. By adding Paul Goldschmidt to their already impressive roster, the Cardinals expected to be contenders all season long.

If those expectations do not start turning to reality soon, expect to see some big changes in St. Louis.

The Cards dropped two out of three to Atlanta, moving their record for May to a miserable 7-16. A main reason for these struggles is their pitching, which has struggled mightily and has posted a 4.39 ERA this season. When you scroll through their box scores over the past few weeks, there are multiple games with seven or more runs allowed, a trend which can't continue.

Management has to be itching to add starters, as Jack Flaherty leads the team with a 3.77 ERA. Starting pitching wins games and the Cardinals desperately need help in that department.

Inconsistent hitting has plagued the Red Birds as well, and with the team sitting 4.5 games back of first in the NL Central, we may see moves be made sooner rather than later if these struggles continue.
