The Cardinals' Offense is Pathetic and They Should Consider Selling at the Deadline

Marcell Ozuna can only do so much.

The St. Louis Cardinals offense has been positively putrid over the month of June, and should only get worse after Ozuna was placed on the DL. St. Louis has scored just 86 runs in the entire month of June, a number so bad even the lowly San Francisco Giants are blowing that number out of the water.

The only two Cardinals with an OPS+ over the average of 100 are Ozuna (121) and shortstop Paul DeJong (113). Paul Goldschmidt has been good, but not what was expected of him after the Cardinals pilfered him from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

If the Cardinals sink down into the basement of the NL Central as the Cubs and Brewers continue to pull away, they should really think about selling. DeJong and Matt Carpenter could help a contender, as could some pitchers like reliever John Gant, top prospect Daniel Ponce de Leon, and starter/reliever hybrid Carlos Martinez.

Either Mike Shildt needs to do something drastic to shake up the lineup or the Cardinals will continue to hit like a Triple-A team and fall out of contention in the NL Central. The offense performing like this can't go on any longer.
