The Cowboys' Losses to Teams With Winning Records Are Actually More Sad Than You Think
By Jerry Trotta
After Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Cowboys, who now sit at 5-4, have only defeated one team with a winning record in 2019: the 5-4 Philadelphia Eagles.
Jason Garrett's four other wins have come against the Giants (twice), Redskins, and Dolphins, teams that have a combined record of 5-23.
While three of their losses might look good on paper, they are MUCH more somber than you think. Dallas has now lost to the Packers without Davante Adams, the Saints without Drew Brees, and the Vikings without Adam Thielen.
What more is there to say about Garrett? Thanks to injuries, he was gifted advantages against elite teams and still couldn't deliver a win.
It doesn't take a football guru to come to terms with the fact that Mike Zimmer, Matt LaFleur, and Sean Payton all thoroughly out-coached the Cowboys in those contests.
A team with as much talent as Dallas should have been able to exploit the absences of the aforementioned superstars. That, unfortunately, has been the story with the Cowboys for the last decade (or as long as Garrett's been at the helm): they have a world of talent on their roster, but ultimately fall short.
If that's not a product of below-average coaching, we don't know what is, and it proves that the Cowboys will have a limited ceiling so long as Garrett remains on the sidelines.
