The Mets Are Becoming the Knicks of the MLB and it's Their Own Fault
By Parker White
The New York Knicks are undoubtedly the laughing stock of the NBA. They haven't put together a winning season since 2012-2013, and the last time they won a championship was in 1972-1973.
The New York Mets did reach the World Series in 2015, but just like the Knicks, they haven't won a championship in over 30 years.
On top of their lackluster play on the field, the Mets can't get it right in the dugout or the front office... just like the Knicks.
To be fair, Knicks head coach David Fizdale deserves a little more time after just one season at the helm, but it's hard to ignore the short tenure of Mets skipper Mickey Callaway, who has failed on many levels and will likely be canned by season's end.
However, it's highly unlikely that Fizdale will have to stay long with the Knicks, who are always quick to get another guy at that position.
The front office maneuvers have also been laughable for the Mets. I don't think one addition that GM Brodie Van Wagenen made this winter has worked out. Even All-Star closer Edwin Diaz isn't being the dominant force we saw in Seattle.
We'll see what the Knicks do in free agency come next week, and outside of signing Kevin Durant (which doesn't seem likely at this point), they'll probably spend all their cap space in all the wrong places.
Of course, success comes from the top down, and you can't get any worse than these two franchises. Knicks owner James Dolan is arguably the worst owner in all of sports, and the Wilpon's are pretty bad when you look at the baseball landscape.
The Mets and their fans may not want to be compared to one of the most dysfunctional franchises we've seen in the Knicks, but they've raised their losing on the field to an art form and management just can't get out of their own way.
