The Pac-12 is Planning a Major Morning Game for 2020 and It's Going to Be a Disaster
By Daniel Marcillo
Anyone excited to head to the stadium to watch some Pac-12 football in the morning?
If you are a college student who just had a long Friday night or someone who had to work all week, we will assume the answer is no.
In the past, the Pac-12 has always been at a disadvantage to other conferences because they play their games mostly in the Pacific Time Zone. Well, it looks like Pac-12 teams are due for some early games in 2020, as Fox is expected to have at least one noon ET kickoff for Pac-12 games.
The noon ET kickoff would mean either of these games starts at 9 a.m. in their host cities. Yes, you read correctly, a 9 a.m. football game.
In order for people to actually attend in person and watch the game on TV, they had to bring in two of the top powerhouses in college football. Washington vs Michigan or Oregon vs Ohio State will be forced into the 9:00 a.m. PT slot, in hopes of generating viewers despite the early start time.
The usual, 10:00 p.m. ET games have developed a following of football die-hards called the "Pac-12 After Dark Cult" who watch these games. These games sometimes become some of the craziest games of the year, but not many people stay up to watch.
