The Packers Are Failing Miserably in the 4th Quarter and That's a Massive Problem
By Michael Luciano
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers looked like they had this one in the bag after going up 10-0 on the Philadelphia Eagles at home and clicking offensively.
They managed to blow a lead of this size at home for the first time in Rodgers' career, and that was due in large part to their poor play in the fourth quarter.
Through four games, albeit three wins, the Packers have managed just six points in the fourth quarter. Part of that is on Rodgers, but most of the blame lies with head coach and play-caller Matt LaFleur as well as OC Nathaniel Hackett.
LaFleur called four straight passing plays from the one-yard line and failed to score on any of them. Rodgers was also intercepted on the two-yard line in the final series of the game. While Aaron Jones was in the middle of pretty rough game, that's still no excuse for LaFleur not even looking his way one in six tries.
LaFleur is succumbing to the disease many young offensive coaches have issues with -- being so confident in their "genius" offense that they eschew basic logic for the sake of looking shrewd The next time they get down to the one-yard line, just QB sneak it or run it up the middle. At least, maybe one time out of six?
