The Smartest Pick Cowboys Made in 2020 NFL Draft
By Alexander Wolz
Across the board, the Dallas Cowboys had an incredibly successful 2020 NFL Draft. By filling in some of the weaker positions on the roster and adding tremendous talent, Dallas has some promising prospects on their hands.
In that crop of talent, Trevon Diggs stands out as the smartest pick, however, largely due to the steal he became as a mid-second round pick.
Following the loss of Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Jones, there was no question Dallas would invest big in that position in the draft. And they did, snatching up Diggs and Reggie Robinson III.
Dallas chose to pick up CeeDee Lamb with their 17th pick, a spot originally believed to be taken by Diggs if Lamb were to be off the table. Regardless, Diggs shockingly hung around for Dallas until the 51st pick.
Diggs comes from one of the nation's best NCAA Football programs, Alabama, meaning he already has winning in his blood. Not to mention, he's the brother of NFL wideout Stefon Diggs. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Diggs dominated on the field, headlined by a senior season with 37 tackles and three interceptions.
With his background as wideout, where he played his freshman season, Diggs has the athleticism to contribute to a Cowboys secondary that certainly represented the weaker side of the team, ranking toward the bottom of the league in turnovers and interceptions.
Lamb was undoubtedly Dallas' most talented pickup in this year's draft, but Diggs may prove to have the biggest impact on the field. Who knows? Maybe the Cowboys will even call his name on offense every now and then.
