The Smartest Pick Rams Made in 2020 NFL Draft
By Max Smith
The Rams have a lot of question marks heading into 2020. After an underwhelming 2019 campaign, they traded Brandin Cooks and released Todd Gurley this offseason. They also lost key defensive pieces Cory Littleton, Dante Fowler and Nickell Robey-Coleman in free agency.
After watching so much high-priced talent exit stage left, their goals for a bounce-back year in 2020 started in earnest with the draft.
The Rams fell off a lot of fans' radar in this year's NFL Draft due to the fact that they didn't have a first-round pick. Ultimately, the team made nine total picks in the 2020 Draft, and Terrell Lewis was their smartest selection.
Former Alabama linebacker Terrell Lewis was selected by the Rams with the 84th overall pick in the draft -- however, his ceiling is clearly higher than his draft slot. Lewis fell mostly due to his injury history, only playing in 14 games in three years at Alabama.
Luckily, Lewis has everything he needs to become a star in the NFL. First of all, he is a physical monster. He measures similarly to Chase Young, standing 6-5 and weighing 254 pounds. A full offseason with an NFL team will be huge for Lewis as he transitions from college. He has always been built like an NFL player, he just needs some help with his technique.
Lewis' versatility is also tremendous. In college, he was able to rush the passer and drop into coverage for Alabama. In today's NFL, versatility and athleticism are becoming more important every year, and those are two of Lewis' greatest strengths. In a few years, this pick will look like a steal for the Rams.
