The Smartest Pick Twins Made in the 2020 MLB Draft
The Minnesota Twins only had four picks in the shortened 2020 MLB Draft and targeted two college position players with their first two selections, which indicates they're looking to keep their offense rolling in years to come.
The smartest pick for the Twins came in the second round when the team selected an intriguing and versatile player from Tennessee.
Alerick Soularie made a name for himself as a Volunteer by slashing .336/.448/.586 in a total of 76 games. He had five home runs in 16 games before the 2020 season was cancelled and Twins fans will love that he had more walks (49) than strikeouts (47) in his Tennessee career.
Soularie played one year of JUCO ball at San Jacinto College and has had quite the rise en route to being a second-round pick. He was listed on several national Preseason All-American lists in 2020 and was expected to be an All-SEC player once again if the season had been played out.
He primarily plays outfield but also has experience at first and second base. The Twins can work with him to find the best slot and just make sure his bat is in the lineup as much as possible. Soularie was a late-bloomer compared to some prospects, but it seemed to work in his favor as he played on a big stage at Tennessee and turned that fortune into becoming the No. 59 overall pick.
