Theo Riddick Reportedly Expected to Sign With Broncos This Week
By Parker White
It looks like Denver Broncos general manager John Elway is giving veteran quarterback Joe Flacco more weapons.
According to Mike Klis, the Broncos are expected to sign running back Theo Riddick later this week.
The 28-year-old running back, who was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round back in 2013, was released on Saturday. Riddick was entering the third year of a four-year, $12.3 million deal.
Riddick is coming off a season where he played in 14 games and rushed for just 171 yards on 40 carries, while also hauling in 61 receptions for 384 yards and zero touchdowns. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield is what makes Riddick a threat as a Darren Sproles-lite of sorts.
Heading into the 2019 season, Denver had a solid group in the backfield, with Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker. Riddick is not an in-between-the-tackles type of runner. He'll likely compete for reps as the Broncos' passing down running back.
