This Dwight Howard Tweet From 2013 Feels Really Poetic Now
By Sam Dunn

Remember Dwight Howard, Los Angeles Laker? Yeah, that was a drag. Even setting aside that retroactively ridiculous Sports Illustrated cover (or the fact that he led the league in rebounds per game), the future Hall of Fame center's single campaign with the Purple and Gold was unanimously seen as a failure.
He knows this. And in light of his reported return to the Lake Show after six years away, a tweet he fired off at the end of the 2012-13 season now feels really, really poetic.
I hope I get the chance to make it up to you!” Thank u la.

How about that?
Howard's career has grown increasingly strange ever since he dominated the league as a member of the Orlando Magic. He made eight straight NBA All-Star teams, was top-five in MVP voting four times, and was Defensive Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons, but has grown essentially irrelevant as the league has moved further and further away from big men who can't shoot a lick.
In 2019-20, he'll get his best (and possibly last) chance at redemption. And he'll get to do it alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Howard came to meet Lakers after dropping 25 pounds; showed his back was healthy. Lakers want him to protect rim/rebound in limited role. There was sense Howard realized he hit "rock bottom" and had been humbled. Still they'll judge him on actions, not words. He's been warned.

With no games to play until the fall, all NBA fans have to hang their hats on is narrative. And today's news is authentically an intriguing development.
