This Jaguars-Buccaneers Trade for Leonard Fournette Could Actually Work
By Michael Luciano
The Jacksonville Jaguars seem committed to landing Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 draft, as the likes of Jalen Ramsey, AJ Bouye, and Calais Campbell have all been traded since the start of last season, with pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue set to be moved soon due to his refusal to play under the franchise tag.
If the Jags keep their fire sale in full swing, running back and former No. 4 overall pick Leonard Fournette could also be on the move.
In need of a running back with a bit more pizzazz than Ronald Jones or Peyton Barber can offer, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should look to get Tom Brady a new buddy in the backfield.
Fournette's value goes down just a tad due to the fact the Jaguars have not picked up his fifth-year option to this point, which means he could be a free agent after this season. The lack of touchdowns (nine in 2018 and 2019), could also bring his value down. A third-round pick should be adequate compensation for a back of his caliber, with his $8.6 million cap hit.
Fournette might not have become the superstar we all envisioned he would become, but with oodles of speed and power at 220 pounds, Fournette has two 1,000-yard seasons to his name, as well as 76 catches last year. He could easily become a star for Bruce Arians in Tampa.
Fournette would easily shoot to the top of the Tampa Bay running back depth chart, and his presence could help an aging Brady get the Bucs to the postseason.
