The Houston Astros saw their previous ace Gerrit Cole leave for the New York Yankees, while top-tier third baseman Anthony Rendon joined the rival Los Angeles Angels. Did we mention the ongoing electronic sign-stealing investigation?

As if matters couldn't get any more bleak for the Astros fan base, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic dropped a bombshell, saying the team has considered trading shortstop Carlos Correa due to payroll limitations.

On Wednesday, the Astros reportedly had dialogue with the New York Mets regarding Correa. So that got us thinking, if the Mets and Astros were to do a trade, how would it look?

Astros-Mets Carlos Correa Prediction

Mets Get: Carlos Correa

Astros Get: OF Brandon Nimmo, SS Andres Gimenez (No. 3 prospect), and Matthew Allan (No. 4 prospect)

  • Nimmo: .221 batting average, .783 OPS, eight home runs and 29 RBI with Mets.
  • Gimenez: .250 batting average, .695 OPS, nine home runs and 37 RBI (Double-A Binghamton)
  • Allan: 1-0 record and 2.61 ERA in 10.1 innings pitched (A Short Brooklyn)

Considering the Astros are surrendering a potential generational shortstop in Correa, the Mets would have to oblige by giving away their own stud at the same position. Amed Rosario would appear to be the obvious choice, but it's unknown if the Mets would actually part ways with him. Hence, they would surrender Andres Gimenez, the organization's third-best prospect.

With Houston set to lose Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke after the 2021 season, the organization would need another young arm to add to their rotation alongside Forrest Whitley. Matthew Allan fits the bill perfectly, who's not set to be ready until 2021 anyway.

Then, there's Brandon Nimmo, who's been linked to a potential trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for Starling Marte. While his batting average is less than desirable, he makes up for it in his slugging ability, as evidenced by his .407 percentage. Nimmo's OBP is also solid, and he projects to be a starting, above-average outfielder if he can stay healthy.

Nimmo, who's arbitration eligible for the next two years, would fill a void in the outfield if George Springer signs with another team next offseason.

It's unknown if a trade between the two teams is imminent, but this package could potentially get the job done.
