This Packers-Panthers Trade for Curtis Samuel Could Actually Work

The Carolina Panthers turned some heads when it was reported that they signed wide receiver Robby Anderson in free agency to a two-year, $20 million contract.

DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel were supposedly the team's wideouts of the future, but you can go right ahead and punt that perception. It's quite evident that Moore has the higher ceiling of the two young WRs, so don't be shocked if the Panthers look to unload the speedy Samuel.

If that turns out to be the case, the Green Bay Packers shouldn't hesitate to look to equip quarterback Aaron Rodgers with another capable pass catcher.

Carolina likely wouldn't demand more than a third- or fourth-round draft pick in return for Samuel, so there's no reason to think that a deal couldn't get done here. Green Bay undoubtedly values its handful of mid-round selections, so expect GM Brian Gutekunst to dabble in some negotiating.

One of the Packers' two fourth-round picks should be satisfactory for the Panthers. Gutekunst could start the bidding with the No.137 pick. If Carolina plays its veto card, Green Bay could simply make its No.116 pick the golden ticket.

A receiving trio of Davante Adams, Devin Funchess, and Samuel (along with Allen Lazard) isn't the best in the NFL, but it's significantly more sufficient than the wideouts the Packers have been deploying in recent seasons. Rodgers should be pleased with this three-man weave.
