This Raiders-Giants Draft Day Trade Could Land Las Vegas Justin Herbert
By Mark Powell
The NFL is restless just like most of us. Let's shake things up.
With the Draft mere days away, NFL teams must evaluate every possible option, and for some stuck in limbo, that includes the most important role center. The Raiders have a new fanbase to impress, and with that comes new expectations. Derek Carr is solid, but he might not cut it for a football-starved Sin City.
Justin Herbert, on the other hand, would be a perfect fit.
Herbert would've been the consensus top QB taken in last year's class had he left Oregon. The talent is there, and he handles himself like a real professional. The kid is a Gruden Grinder, so it's not surprising the Raiders are enamored with him.
The Giants, meanwhile, seem surprisingly unsettled in one of Dave Gettleman's classic exploits. Isaiah Simmons should be available at No. 4, but that's not enough for a gambler willing to lose all his chips, especially since Gettleman could easily upgrade the O-Line with a slightly later pick -- Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, and Andrew Thomas are all more appealing to the G-Men than they are to other teams.
To move up eight spots into the top four, the Raiders must part ways with their No. 12 pick, as well as two of their three third-round picks (Nos. 80, 81, 91). The value of those back-to-back selections is particularly high for a team in full rebuild mode like the Giants, as it opens up a ton of options on New York's draft board, and ensures no other team swoops in to steal a player of value.
If the Raiders truly value Herbert, they'll make this hard sell to Gettleman. If not, Carr is safe for now.
