This Seahawks-Patriots Trade for Joe Thuney Actually Makes Sense
By Michael Luciano
The New England Patriots were able to retain offensive guard Joe Thuney (for now!) by hitting him with the franchise tag that creates a $14.78 million cap hit for next season, but the Patriots have reportedly not made a ton of progress when it comes to getting him to sign an extension.
Still in need of more linemen to help keep interior pass rushers from breathing down Russell Wilson's neck, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks should consider making a move for Thuney.
Thuney swapping coasts will require at least a second-round pick transferring from Seattle to New England, but the Seahawks should also consider trading an offensive lineman like BJ Finney in order to take on Thuney's cap hit.
A guard like Finney being included in the deal would allow New England to pick up another starter on the interior of their offensive line in exchange for Thuney, while recouping a second-rounder they could use to pick a wide receiver. Seattle, meanwhile would add one of the best athletes at any offensive line position in the league to a subpar unit.
Seattle is still in the market for some offensive line help, and they could fix their issue in a pretty major way by giving up some draft capital and landing Thuney.
