This Stat Proves Cardinals Rookie Genesis Cabrera Isn't Ready for Majors
By Daniel Lubofsky
Genesis Cabrera first action in the MLB hasn't gotten off to a stellar start.
He's lost both of his appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals, while having given up nine total runs in just 8.1 innings of play. He's also allowed 13 hits with an earned run average of 6.48.
One would assume those numbers would be as bad as it could get for the struggling 22-year-old hurler. Unfortunately, that's not the case:
In his most recent outing against the Cincinnati Reds, Cabrera threw 95 total pitches. Of those 95, not a single swing and miss?
No matter at what level they may be, a pitcher's ability to get a hitter whiffing at air is a valued asset that runs up the strike count and keeps the ball out of play.
The fact that Cabrera couldn't get a single batter to bite at his stuff should raise questions. This kid appears to have a bright future, but perhaps more time in the minors is needed at this time.
