This Texans Starter Will Be First to Lose Starting Job in 2020
By Michael Luciano
The Houston Texans vacuumed up a new set of wide receivers to replace DeAndre Hopkins, as they traded for Brandin Cooks while adding Randall Cobb in free agency to pair with Kenny Stills and former first-round pick Will Fuller.
Given how much Houston ran two and three wide-receiver sets last year, the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart isn't going to see much time. Despite his speed, Stills could fall from second all the way down to fourth on the depth chart.
Stills has been made a bit redundant by Cooks, as the newly-minted Texan will take over the role of both No. 1 wide receiver and preferred deep threat. Cobb will also get snaps, as he provides a reliable veteran option that can be trusted to earn tough yards over the middle.
Whomever gets more playing time between Fuller and Stills is essentially a coin flip. Fuller's ability to run a more diverse route tree will likely give him the edge over Stills, considering the shelf life on speed receivers is a bit shorter than most possession wide receivers.
Difficult choices will have to be made in Houston, given the surplus of wide receivers on the roster, and Stills, a free agent at the end of this year, might find it the hardest to earn snaps consistently.
