This Warriors-Timberwolves Trade Involving D'Angelo Russell Actually Makes Sense
By Michael Luciano
The Minnesota Timberwolves have basically been stalking D'Angelo Russell since the budding star was a free agent last summer, and they could look to add the Golden State Warriors point guard via trade if they want to keep pace with the rest of the big dogs in the Western Conference.
The Warriors could look to continue their rebuilding efforts with a Russell trade, as rumors circulate in earnest ahead of the impending deadline.
D'Angelo Russell Contract Details
Russell, 23, signed a four-year, $117 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets last offseason, but he was the key piece in a sign-and-trade that brought Kevin Durant to Brooklyn. He will make $28.6 million, $30 million, and $31.3 million in the next three years.
The Wolves, should they be unwilling to part with Andrew Wiggins, don't have a ton of assets to part with now that Jeff Teague is an Atlanta Hawk. Expert 3-point shooter and wing defender Robert Covington will almost assuredly have to go to Golden State in a Russell trade.
Josh Okogie has fallen out of favor now that Jarrett Culver is starting to come into his own, and the Warriors could be intrigued by the athletic guard. Throw in a first-round pick, and Russell will finally join his buddy Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota.
Russell is an All-Star that can score 20 points with his eyes closed, and Minnesota would have one of the best big threes in the league if they are able to pull this trade off.
