This Yankees-Dodgers Giancarlo Stanton Trade Could Actually Work

It's time to churn the ol' rumor mill, MLB fans. The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers were bounced from the postseason in disappointing fashion and fans aren't exactly thrilled. So what if these teams worked together to shake things up a bit?

We know the Dodgers were very much in the running for Giancarlo Stanton before his arrived in New York. Unfortunately for the slugger, his time with the Bronx Bombers has been largely disappointing and the fanbase is growing restless.

His first year in Pinstripes was certainly good, but it was a far cry from his MVP campaign the season prior. Throw in the fact he was terrible in last year's ALDS, played in just 18 regular-season games in 2019, and missed four ALCS games this time around, and it may be best for both parties to move on and have Stanton start anew.

What better place than LA? He was willing to accept a trade there two offseasons ago and it's safe to say Dodgers fans are a lot more forgiving than Yankees fans. Plus, remember the buzz about the Yanks possibly moving Stanton to the Dodgers anyway?

So what would a possible deal look like between these two teams?

It's complicated because of Stanton's contract. He's owed at least $25 million per season through 2027 (a grand total of $234 million), so a lot of factors will be involved in the potential transaction.

Perhaps the Yankees take on AJ Pollock's deal in the move? The Dodgers have enough outfielders to make due at this point while the Yankees have Brett Gardner and Cameron Maybin hitting free agency (and in this case, the loss of Stanton). That would relieve LA of $51 million. Maybe they dump Joe Kelly in the deal too after his largely lackluster season. He's owed about $22 million over the next two seasons. If they can dump $73 million of players they don't necessarily need, that'll make Stanton's contract much easier to absorb.

Now, let's talk prospects. The Yankees could maybe throw in top pitching prospect Albert Abreu while LA sends Michael Busch to New York considering the Dodgers have a heavy logjam in the infield. Others could very well be involved, but this seems like a good starting point.

So, hypothetically, here's what we could be looking at:

Yankees Get: AJ Pollock, Joe Kelly and Michael Busch

Dodgers Get: Giancarlo Stanton, Albert Abreu and potentially minimal salary relief from Stanton's deal
