Throwback Photo of 49ers Leaders Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch is Awesome
By Will Coleman
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is San Francisco's football savior. After a pair of losing seasons, the 40-year-old took the team to the NFC's promised land this year in his third campaign. San Francisco may have lost to Kansas City this past February, but the team's run to the Super Bowl reaffirmed the need to keep Shanahan at the helm.
And apparently, 49ers GM John Lynch had his eye on Shanahan for a long time coming. If any Bay Area fans are looking for some nostalgic Throwback Thursday material, this right here is it.
This photo goes all the way back to the 2007 NFL season. In Week 15, the Texans had just won 31-13 to pick up their seventh victory of the season, and Broncos captain John Lynch was roaming the field postgame. As Shanahan greeted various Broncos around midfield, the Houston quarterbacks coach was photo-bombed by a lurking Lynch.
Before being anywhere close to becoming the general manager of a professional football team, Lynch gave Shanahan a stare that came off as stalkerish then, but is something else entirely now. Shanahan went on to become a well-respected offensive coordinator, and 10 years later, he earned his first head coaching gig from Lynch during his innagural season as 49ers GM.
This photo didn't mean so much when it was taken, but now, it represents the eeriest kind of football foreshadowing. It's like Lynch knew!
