Thunder Reportedly Trade Jerami Grant to Nuggets for 1st-Round Pick
By Brian Cass
After the blockbuster trade that sent Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers, it appears OKC isn't done wheeling and dealing for draft picks just yet.
Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder are sending forward Jerami Grant to the Denver Nuggets for a 2020 first-rounder. This trade now gives the Thunder thier six new future first-round selection in the span of a week, and will help them save $39 million in salary and luxury tax liabilities.
This deal feels like a good one for both sides. The Thunder acquire another asset as they approach their inevitable rebuild, and the Nuggets acquire another rangy forward who can put in some dirty work in their pursuit of a Western Conference title next season.
In Grant's five-year career, he's averaged 8.8 points with 3.9 rebounds to go along with 1.2 blocks per game. Last season, he had his best year as a pro, averaging 13.6 points 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks while playing consistent impact defense.
The Thunder now have more assets than nearly every team in the NBA, which should bode well for them as they enter this rebuilding phase. Now, we'll just have to wait and see what kind of return they can get from their All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook if and when they find a trade partner for him this summer.
