ESPN MLB Draft Analyst Makes it Sound Like Tigers Are Fully Decided on No. 1 Pick
The condensed 2020 MLB Draft is set to begin June 10 and the Detroit Tigers are already on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick. While there have been plenty of changes this year, it appears the Tigers are still set to get their guy with the top pick.
Spencer Torkelson has been linked to the Tigers for months and he would immediately become the first baseman of the future. ESPN analyst Kiley McDaniel was quoted as saying the Tigers drafting Torkelson is a done deal barring any shocking developments between now and next week.
McDaniel saying there is 't even a conversation to be had shows how high the Tigers reportedly are on Torkelson. The Arizona State product slashed .337/.463/.729 in 129 career games and also launched 54 home runs. That vaulted him to the top of the draft boards and the Tigers are making the easy choice here.
Players like Asa Lacy and Austin Martin also find themselves as top prospects in the 2020 class, so Detroit has options. But this latest report should mean the Tigers can begin to move forward with Torkelson and hopefully expedite what has been a rough rebuild.
