Tigers and Brewers Should Ignite MLB With This Trade Involving Niko Goodrum
By Mark Powell
The Milwaukee Brewers were active after a slow start this offseason, bringing in the likes of Avisail Garcia, Brock Holt, Eric Sogard and of course extending the face of the franchise in Christian Yelich.
While we're all waiting for baseball to start up again, contending teams like Milwaukee ought to consider if there's even more they can do to contend in a shortened 2020 season.
A simple -- and relatively cheap option, which is key for the Brew Crew -- would be trading for Detroit Tigers infielder Niko Goodrum.
Goodrum can play all over the infield, and while he isn't a major upgrade for Milwaukee, he's a productive bat off the bench and has an argument to start at shortstop on Opening Day.
Detroit, meanwhile, is looking to cash in on prospect capital while they still can. Goodrum is one of their only relatively young, expendable players, so Al Avila must get a respectable return. RHP Drew Rasmussen along with 19-year-old OF Carlos Rodriguez should be enough to satisfy that need.
Goodrum is relatively unknown outside of AL Central circles, and part of that is due to how putrid Detroit has been the past two seasons. With a chance to compete in Milwaukee, his effort and timely defensive prowess would make him a fan favorite with the Brewers.
