Tigers Congratulate Former Draft Pick Patrick Mahomes on Super Bowl Win in Funny Tweet
By Scott Rogust
The world is buzzing after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV. A ton of credit must go to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who orchestrated a fourth quarter comeback to give the Chiefs their first Lombardi Trophy in 50 years. As a result of his performance, Mahomes won Super Bowl MVP honors.
There were plenty of congratulatory tweets sent to the 24-year-old quarterback, but no one is topping one from the Detroit Tigers, who actually drafted him in the 37th round back in 2014.
Before committing to Texas Tech to play football, Mahomes was seen as a top baseball prospect in that year's draft. But, considering he was dead-set on playing football, it resulted in him dropping. The Tigers took a chance by selecting him, but Mahomes opted against signing.
The decision to play football turned out to be the right decision for Mahomes. In his first two years as Chiefs starting quarterback, he has established himself as one of the best QBs in the game and has a Super Bowl win.
Oh, and he's set to command a record-breaking contract extension in the near future. Not too bad for the... former Tigers draft pick.
