Tigers Promoting Top Prospect Reliever Bryan Garcia
By Michael Luciano
As the 2019 is mercifully coming to an end for the laughable Detroit Tigers, Al Avila has decided to dig into their deep farm system to see if their best prospects can cut it at the big league level.
The Tigers will promote reliever Bryan Garcia, who is ranked as their No. 21 prospect.
After his rise to the top of their farm system was derailed by Tommy John surgery, Garcia has shown that he's even more effective after the operation.
In 31 games with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, Garcia is 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA. His repertoire on the mound includes a mid-90s fastball, a sharp breaking slider that he uses as his strikeout pitch, and a developing changeup.
With Ron Gardenhire and Detroit destined for another No. 1 pick, the least that the organization can do is call up some of the top prospects in the organization in an attempt to get butts in seats at Comerica Park and keep fan interest somewhat alive.
Garcia has given every indication, however, that he's more than a September call-up and will be a key part of their short-term future.
