Tigers Rank Among Worst Teams of All-Time Through 100 Games
By Jerry Trotta
With all due respect, when you are five games back of the Baltimore Orioles in the win column, you know your club is an outright disgrace.
That's where the Detroit Tigers (30-70), currently stand after losing five in a row and nine of their last 10. On that abysmal pace, the club is on pace to match the record of their dreadful 2003 season, considered by most pundits to be one of, if not the worst campaign of the Modern Era.
Of course, Detroit finished 43-119 that year and were 27-73 through their first 100 games.
Do the math, folks. That means the Tigers are just six games off the pace of the '03 disaster. And if we're being honest, given their woeful post All-Star break form, we'd be surprised if they didn't match their record at some point over the next month.
Ron Gardenhire's men aren't even expected to come close to 2018's win total. For those who don't remember, that season was also shambolic as they finished just 64-98.
Motor City news outlets and publications aren't even shying away from bashing their club. It's that bad.
It goes without saying that Tigers fans have absolutely nothing to look forward to for the final two months of the year. If nothing else, they can keep track of their minor league prospects, who are actually performing quite well. With the addition of some pieces at the trade deadline, Detroit's farm system could actually be a positive. The major league squad, however, is far from that.
