4 Tight Ends the Packers Need to Target After Jimmy Graham News
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly expected to move on from tight end Jimmy Graham this offseason, which will save the team $8 million in cap space and give them an opportunity to get their hands on a better playmaker.
This is actually good timing to seek upgrades at the position due to the players who could be available for the taking this offseason. Several talented names stand out as obvious options for the Packers in free agency, via trade and in the draft.
4. Thaddeus Moss
Thaddeus Moss played one year at LSU and finished with 570 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the national champion Tigers team. While it was recently discovered he needs to undergo foot surgery, the injury reportedly isn't serious and the Packers could get their hands on him in the later rounds of the NFL Draft. Randy Moss' son in Green Bay?! Would be a sight!
3. Hunter Henry
Hunter Henry is only 25 years old and is a top tight end target this offseason. The Los Angeles Chargers may place the franchise tag on him, but the Packers should be keeping an eye on the situation. He had 652 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2019 with a declining Philip Rivers as his quarterback. Working with Aaron Rodgers would only boost Henry's numbers, especially if he became a focal point on offense with around 80-100 targets.
2. Evan Engram
The New York Giants are reportedly considering moving on from Evan Engram after only three seasons. Engram has only played in 34 games in those three years due to injuries, but he still put up full-time numbers. The tight end had 467 yards and three touchdowns in only eight games in 2019. He's also still on his rookie deal and would be a cheap addition for a Packers team looking to win a Super Bowl next season.
1. Austin Hooper
Austin Hooper made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019 with the Atlanta Falcons. He finished 2019 with 787 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Hooper had 97 targets and would be a perfect fit in the Packers offense given his ability to stretch the field. He stands at 6-foot-4 and is only 25 years old. Investing in him would give Rodgers a top target and take pressure off the young receiving corps, which is exactly what the Packers need right now.
