VIDEO: Titans RB Derrick Henry Reveals Massive Contract Demands Ahead of Free Agency
By Michael Luciano
Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry picked a perfect time to will his team to an AFC Championship. While Henry did tell Rich Eisen that he wants to stay in Tennessee, he wants to get paid like a top-shelf running back. Ezekiel Elliott received a record-breaking contract last offseason, but Henry views that contract as "the floor" as he looks to secure the bag.
For context, Zeke signed a six-year, $90 million deal, which has the same average annual value as Todd Gurley's four-year, $60 million deal.
At the age of 25, Henry led all of football in carries (303), rushing yards (1,540), and touchdowns (16). He was nearly unstoppable in the postseason, running for 182 and 195 yards in upsets against the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.
Henry is the heartbeat of that Titans team, and their offense will take a major step in the wrong direction if they let another team get a hold of him.
Henry will get something at least in the neighborhood of the Zeke deal, which could give the Titans pause for thought. However, the entire state of Tennessee would revolt if Jon Robinson didn't make an extremely concerted effort to re-sign Henry.
