Titans OT Jack Conklin Planning To Sign With Jets in Free Agency

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Le'Veon Bell struggled to kick it into high gear in Adam Gase's first season as Jets head coach, and a big reason why was a horrific offensive line.
Jets GM Joe Douglas wanted to attack that position early in free agency, and it appears he has made major strides in that pursuit. Tennessee Titans right tackle Jack Conklin, a free agent this offseason, is expected to sign with the Jets, according to at least one NFL team.
Conklin, who was selected eighth overall in 2016 out of Michigan State, was named a First Team All-Pro as a rookie in 2016. While his play has declined to the point that he hasn't reached a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team since, his 78.0 Pro Football Focus grade and tremendous run-blocking ability shows that he is still among the best right tackles in all of football.
Conklin would instantly become a starter at right tackle over Chuma Edoga and Brandon Shell, and the Jets are expected to use the 11th overall pick on a left tackle to replace Kelvin Beachum.
Darnold and Bell both had rough first seasons under Gase in New York, but that could start to change if they add a right tackle like Conklin and get better in the trenches in the draft.
