Titans Sign ex-Bears Kicker Cody Parkey After Releasing Cairo Santos
By Ryan Giglio
The Tennessee Titans lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday 14-7-- and the modest margin of defeat made Cairo Santos' four missed field goals all the more demoralizing.
That's why it was no surprise when the team released Santos on Monday in an effort to improve at the position. However, Santos' replacement, Cody Parkey, is infamous for missing field goals of his own.
Parkey and "double-doink" became synonymous last season after his missed field goal cost the Bears a playoff victory over the Eagles.
That being said, there should be little pressure on Parkey, as he's replacing a kicker who has gone only 4-9 in field goal attempts in 2019. Santos' misses on Sunday came from 50, 36, 53 and 33 yards, with the Bills blocking the 33-yarder to boot.
The Titans placed their usual starting kicker Ryan Succop on injured reserve in September due to a knee injury. The reliable Succop isn't expected to return until Week 9, so there's every chance that Tennessee will have kicking problems for at least three more games.
Unless, of course, a Cody Parkey redemption story becomes a reality.
