3 Titans Veterans Who Could Be Cut After the NFL Draft
By Scott Rogust
The Tennessee Titans were just one win away from doing the improbable and reaching Super Bowl LIV. They upset favorites in the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens in the first two rounds of the playoffs, setting the tone that they're not to be messed with in the AFC for the foreseeable future. After paying quarterback Ryan Tannehill and placing the franchise tag on running back Derrick Henry, the team will now look to the NFL Draft to bring in younger players, which will in turn, put the livelihood of veterans in jeopardy.
Here are three players who could be cut by the Titans after the NFL Draft.
3. WR Kalif Raymond
The Titans starting wide receiver corps is rather forgotten about. Well, besides AJ Brown, who broke out in his rookie season. While wide receiver isn't a huge need entering the NFL Draft, Tennessee is in prime territory to select a Denzel Mims or Jalen Raegor with the 29th overall pick. That would seriously help out Tannehill, but it would come at the expense of someone already on the roster. Kalif Raymond stands out as a cut candidate, considering he accounts for $0 in dead money and recorded just nine receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown in eight games (one start).
2. RT David Quessenberry
As many know, the Titans lost starting right tackle Jack Conklin to the Cleveland Browns via free agency. The team did sign Dennis Kelly to replace him at the position, but it's abundantly clear the Titans need to select a rookie offensive tackle with one of their top picks. If Tennessee does so, an offensive lineman will have to be shown the door. Despite scoring a "Big Man Touchdown" last season, David Quessenberry would be easy to part ways with financially, as he carries no dead money against the Titans salary cap. It would be a tough decision, but the signing of Ty Sambrailo this offseason leaves little room for Quessenberry on the roster.
1. CB Chris Milton
The biggest positional weakness on the Titans roster is at cornerback. Logan Ryan was their best defensive back last year and he might not be back in 2020 (he's still a free agent). As a result, the Titans can be in position to take a cornerback in this year's draft. Considering Malcolm Butler's contract is nearly impossible to cut ties with, the Titans will have to release someone at the position. Chris Milton only accounts for $90,000 in dead money and was a non-factor off the bench, recording just five tackles and zero pass breakups in six games.
