Todd Gurley Thinks Thursday Night Football is Bad and He's Just Saying What We're All Thinking
By Michael Luciano
Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, who scored twice in a hectic loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, only has three days to turn around and prepare to play another game as the Rams play a tough division game against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.
Like many players, Gurley is fervently against the idea of playing on such short notice.
"I feel like they are the dumbest thing ever," Gurley said. "For the most part, if you aren't really battling injuries or stuff like that, Thursday is kind of like a day you usually feel good anyway," Gurley said. "We just have a quick turnaround to go up to Seattle."
"It's never a good thing to be on a short week," added Rams safety John Johnson.
As fans, it might be cool to watch a game like last week's Eagles-Packers game, but that was obviously the exception that proves the rule. Players can't physically be prepared to play on a short week, and it only raises the chance that a major injury occurs. What good is a game if some of the best players in the league suffer season-altering injuries?
(It also must be noted that Thursday's game is quite often one of the weakest matchups of the week.)
Gurley and his arthritic knees have to play 60 minutes of full contact football for the second time in a four day span. Because owners are greedy and it's all about the money, there is almost a zero percent chance the league gets rid of these exhibitions.
