Todd Gurley Has Perfect Tweet After Getting Released From Rams While in Quarantine
By Karl Rasmussen
The Los Angeles Rams had a difficult decision to make Thursday afternoon regarding Todd Gurley's future with the organization. Ultimately, rather than continue to pay his gargantuan contract, the Rams opted to part ways with the 25-year-old running back, making him a late addition to the free agent market.
Less than an hour after the move was made official, Gurley took to Twitter to react to the news, and his response was perfect.
Gurley was just trying to make the most of his time quarantining, but instead got this bombshell dropped upon him. Getting fired on your day off is rough no matter what business you're in -- and yes, we understand it's a relative "off day" for many folks right now, too.
The Rams initially inked the former Georgia standout to a massive four-year, $60 million contract, which set the market for running backs. The decision from the organization was scrutinized heavily, and Gurley's recent run of injuries have only justified the words of critics.
Now, despite having signed on for a long-term deal just a couple seasons ago, Gurley finds himself a free agent at 25.
While Gurley may be disappointed not to have been retained, he seems to understand that the Rams needed to make a business decision, particularly if they hope to re-sign Jalen Ramsey, for whom they dealt two first-round picks to Jacksonville.
His teammates didn't take the news quite so swimmingly, though.
There should be a handful of suitors for Gurley on the open market, though he certainly shouldn't be expecting a deal even sniffing the range of $15 million per season.
