VIDEO: Todd McShay Reveals Who He Thinks Patriots Should Target at QB in 2020 NFL Draft
By Scott Rogust
Even with the loss of Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New England Patriots are stressing their utmost confidence in their current quarterback room, led by Jarrett Stidham. Yet, nobody is buying it, and that includes NFL Draft experts, all of whom project the Patriots to select a rookie signal caller later this month. During an appearance on ESPN's "Get Up" on Monday, Todd McShay gave his opinion on who he thinks the Patriots should take. And it's not a first-round talent.
Will Georgia's Jake Fromm do it for Pats fans?
McShay started off by saying that Fromm doesn't have the desired physical traits NFL teams normally look for and then talks about his struggles in bad weather. However, ESPN's draft expert did say that out of all the quarterbacks he's spoken with. Fromm was by far the smartest.
Additionally, McShay brought up the Patriots' rumored interest in Cincinnati Bengals signal caller Andy Dalton, and said he'd prefer Fromm over him due to their similar traits and playing style.
Fromm's statistics don't jump out, but that's due to the Bulldogs having a rush-heavy offense. Through his three seasons at Athens, Fromm completed 63.3% of his passes for 8.236 yards, 78 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.
Considering all the top quarterback prospects will likely be off the board by pick No. 23, the Patriots can use their first-rounder on another position of need. That would then give them the luxury of selecting a quarterback like Fromm later on without having to worry.
