Tom Brady's Instagram Story After NFL Schedule Release Makes No Sense
By Jerry Trotta
The NFL once again came to the rescue of sports fans jonesing for content amid the coronavirus crisis when it released its full schedule for the 2020 season on Thursday night.
The unveiling of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 16-game slate was one of the more anticipated leaks, and it's fair to say that it lived up to the hype. After all, Tom Brady and Co. will open the campaign against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.
That's precisely what makes Brady's Instagram story, in which he responded to the Bucs schedule, so befuddling.
Does TB12 have a vendetta against the Los Angeles Chargers? Why is he cranking prime Green Day wishing that September flies by? Perhaps he just glossed over Tampa Bay's matchup versus New Orleans to start the year.
That's as important of a game as any on the itinerary, folks. For starters, the Saints are the NFC South champs for three years running. The Week 1 contest will set the tone for the rest of the season in terms of the Buccaneers asserting themselves as legitimate contenders.
If this is Brady's way of showing deference to the Saints' power, it's a strange (and seemingly dismissive) way to do it.
Yes, according to Brady, the season may as well not start until October in Week 4 against the Chargers, who have zero rivalry with the Bucs and finished last in the AFC West at 5-11 in 2019.
We're not crazy. Brady's reaction is a head-scratcher.
