With plenty of teams projected to keep tabs on Tom Brady ahead of free agency, the San Francisco 49ers have surprisingly emerged as a dark horse landing spot for the 42-year-old signal caller.

Despite the 49ers' relentless public conviction in Jimmy Garoppolo since the team's loss in Super Bowl LIV, the Brady rumors just won't seem to peter out, and now, things are just getting nonsensical.

FS1 radio host Colin Cowherd, a renowned Brady apologist, is actually endorsing the preposterous concept of Brady signing with the Niners, and San Francisco subsequently trading Garoppolo to the Patriots.

Hold up, Cowherd.

For starters, why would the 49ers give New England a get out jail free card by deploying them with a 28-year-old gunslinger that is familiar with the team's system? Are they that wary of their franchise guy who missed one singular throw in the Super Bowl? Of course, Garoppolo famously served as Brady's understudy in Foxborough for three seasons before he was traded to San Fran after the 2016 campaign.

Even if the 49ers secretly aren't fully convinced that Jimmy G is the quarterback to lead them to the promised land, why would they believe in a regressing vet in the twilight of his career instead? Sure, one could make the case that Brady would hit some of the throws that Garoppolo missed in the Super Bowl (the deep ball to Emmanuel Sanders, to name one), but are we to believe that the organization is that desperate for a slighly enhanced chance at a single ring, abandoning all plans for a future dynasty?

Unsurprisingly, Skip Bayless, another Brady diehard, is behind the idea.

One could say that this idea would "make sense" for one, MAYBE two seasons, but what happens after that? The 49ers' roster is young, and built to win years into the future.

We could argue all day whether or not Garoppolo boasts the clutch gene, but for the Niners to swiftly give up on him a few short months after he logged a 102.0 quarterback rating and led the team to a Super Bowl in favor of a soon-to-be retired gunslinger would be a monumental miscalculation. And letting him waltz back to New England? That'd be a bigger favor to the region than the Tuck Rule.
