Tom Brady Reminds Us Yet Again That Everyone Doubted Him as NFL Draft Prospect in Latest Instagram
By Michael Luciano
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady loves to remind people that he was the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft after a solid, if uninspiring, career at Michigan.
Today is the day that Brady was officially drafted by New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, and he reminded us all that your favorite team passed on him multiple times, while some teams took objectively terrible quarterbacks over the future Hall of Famer.
We get it, Tom. After throwing 30 touchdowns in two years and showing off unremarkable athleticism, you fell to pick No. 199.
A couple of the guys drafted in front of him had solid careers. Chad Pennington was a serviceable starter with the New York Jets, Marc Bulger put up numbers with the St. Louis Rams, and Chris Redman had a long career as a backup. Brady, however, dwarfs the rest of that class.
Teams like the 49ers, Steelers, and Browns drafting players like Giovanni Carmazzi, who never played in the NFL, Tee Martin, and Spergeon Wynn over Brady have egg on their face for passing on one of best players of all time.
Even in what will be the start of his third decade of NFL football, Brady is still using that draft slot as motivation.
