Former Rays OF Tommy Pham Calls Out Astros, AJ Hinch on Instagram After Latest Cheating Revelations
By Thomas Carannante
We learned on Friday that there was much more to the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal than we previously could have imagined. Manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were recently fired in wake of the league's investigation even though they claimed to have little to no knowledge of what was going on -- but that turned out not to be true after more was revealed from the MLB's findings on Friday.
One player who wasn't too thrilled about that was former Tampa Bay Rays (and current San Diego Padres) outfielder Tommy Pham. His team was eliminated by the Astros in Game 5 of the ALDS, so he must feel the team's schemes contributed to the Rays' early exit from the playoffs.
Remember when AJ Hinch laughed at the allegations last season when the Yankees complained about incessant whistling from the Astros dugout? Hinch called the sign-stealing allegations a "joke." At the time, the former manager had an interview with SI's Tom Verducci in an attempt to further exonerate himself and make his "apology" appear a bit more personable, but he failed miserably since the additional findings of the investigation happened to drop during his TV spot.
Talk about awful timing.
Perhaps the continued player outrage will prompt the MLB to hand down more harsh punishments on those involved, considering it's clear the Astros had an unfair competitive advantage for three straight seasons.
Tommy Pham would certainly be happy seeing that happen.
