Tony Allen Shares Wild Story About Getting Knocked Out by Glen Davis in Playful Boxing Match
By Ian Anderson
During his playing days, Tony Allen was one of the NBA's defensive stalwarts, but based on this story, he might not be the best defensively in the boxing ring.
Back when he played for the Boston Celtics, Allen had the great idea of boxing against Glen 'Big Baby' Davis, and saying it backfired would be an understatement.
Allen says that when he boxed against the 6-9, 290 pound Davis, he was able to get a couple of swings in before Davis dropped him. That was it. A couple of measly swings, and then lights out for the former three-time All-NBA defensive player.
The former Celtic does say that it was a great way to bring the team together more, as everyone would tease him about it, and that it was a lot of fun to participate in the joke.
Allen spent seven seasons as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, where he was beloved by fans. The Grizzlies announced that they would retire Allen's No. 9 jersey when he hung 'em up for good, and boy, does he deserve it.
