Tony Romo made a great decision to hang up his cleats and join the broadcast booth when he retired back in 2016. In fact, it was arguably the best decision of his life.

CBS gave Romo a chance and he has blossomed into a broadcasting superstar. His latest contract reflects that, as the former QB is now set to make $17 million annually on what's expected to be a long term deal with the network.

$17 million! For comparisons sake, Romo made that same amount back in 2015 with the Cowboys. Now, he'll be securing the bag without having to put his body in harms way. Sounds like a great deal to us.

This is a gargantuan contract for a broadcaster -- he's now far and away the highest-paid NFL analyst in history -- and it shows just how valuable Romo has become in the booth.

Romo was being pursued by other networks, particularly ESPN who offered him a sizable deal. Instead, CBS ponied up to make sure Romo stays in the network's booth beyond the 2022 season, at quite the hefty cost.

Romo now has the chance to make more in a decade of broadcasting than he did in 14 years of playing. That should be a sign to other veteran players who may be on the fence about retiring and joining the booth. There is plenty of money to be made without all the injuries.
