3 Yankees Prospects Fans Need to Keep an Eye on Throughout 2020 Season
By Jack Murphy
The New York Yankees are very much in win-now mode, and are doing every thing they can to end the season with the ultimate goal of their World Series title since 2009. Fortunately, that doesn't mean they don't still have legitimate talent within their farm system getting steadily groomed for MLB play. Keep an eye out for these three studs to take the league by storm in due time.
1. Deivi Garcia
Deivi Garcia can be a valuable piece for the Yankee pitching staff for a long time. The Bronx Bombers signed him using international pool money in 2015, and he appeared in the All-Star Futures Game in 2019 on the strength of some impressive performances in the lower levels. While it is unclear if Garcia will be utilized as a starter or in the pen in the long term, expect the young arm to contribute to this team sooner rather than later. According to MLB Pipeline, Garcia is ranked as the Yankees' No. 3 prospect.
2. Clarke Schmidt
The New York Yankees selected Clarke Schmidt with the 16th pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. They may have reached a bit for the righty in the draft, but as they knew he would not be available for their next pick, it was a call they had to make. The 24-year-old has been impressive so far, showing off exciting stuff throughout the spring, registering six strikeouts in only five innings pitched. While Schmidt is currently not on the Yankees' 40-man roster, he is the organization's No. 2 prospect and destined to be a part of the starting rotation in the Bronx.
3. Jasson Dominguez
The Yankees may never have had a prospect as highly coveted as "The Martian," Jasson Dominguez. He just turned 17 years old in February and has only played at the lowest levels of the minors, but is already is ranked as the No. 54 prospect in all of baseball. For those of you who are not familiar with the Martian, he is a switch-hitting center fielder who posses unreal power and great speed. He has drawn comparisons to none other than the legendary Mickey Mantle (!), and while he will not be expected to be in the bigs for a few more years, Yankee fans should be excited for this talented kid to keep getting better and better.
