Travis Kelce Admits Jaguars Tried to 'Bully' Chiefs Last Season
By Scott Rogust
Out of the 16 matchups in the opening week of the NFL season, perhaps the most competitive game on the Sunday slate is between the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs' explosive offense vs the Jaguars' gritty defense should be a tantalizing matchup.
Last season, Kansas City defeated Jacksonville 30-14 to continue their then undefeated streak. However, tight end Travis Kelce knows all too well how difficult that matchup was. In fact, he remembers the Chiefs having a handful of players ejected, due to the fact that Jacksonville's defense were acting like "the bully."
Entering the 2018 season, the Jaguars were feeling themselves a bit too much, after being one win away from Super Bowl LII the year prior. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey called speedy Kansas City receiver Tyreek Hill a "return specialist" in his now-infamous GQ interview.
The Chiefs and Kelce got the last laugh in the end game. Kelce finished the contest with five receptions for 100 yards. In fact, Jacksonville only allowed 135 yards to tight ends in their previous four games.
What doomed Jacksonville that game was the play of then-quarterback Blake Bortles, who threw four interceptions that game. In this edition, the Jaguars have Nick Foles, who was a postseason hero the past two years for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Will the bad blood from last year boil over in the first week of 2019? It will certainly make for entertaining television, as if this game needed any more emotion.
